Licensed motors at 340,981 at end of June

Number of licensed motors up by 1% over previous quarter to 340,981

According to NSO statistics, June saw a 1% increase in licensed motors with 340,981 in total.

79.3% of these vehicles were passenger cars, 14% were commercial vehicles and 5.7% were motorcycles. Buses and minibuses accounted for less than 1%.

Statistics show that new licences issued during the second quarter amounted to 5,443, with the majority (4,224 or 77.6% of the total) being issued to passenger cars, followed by motorcycles at 672.

According to figures, newly-licensed ‘new’ motor vehicles amounted to 2,505, or 46% of the total, and new licences for ‘used’ motor vehicles totalled 2,938.

NSO adds that in the second quarter, 114 vehicles were exported, and garaged vehicles amounted to 1,951, while scrapped vehicles totalled 1,013.

Figures show that at the end of June, 206,766 vehicles had petrol engines, making up 60.6% of the total, and diesel-powered vehicles accounted for 39% with 132,960.
