Fish farm waste polluting Delimara bays

The council said MEPA had already been informed about the situation, which is affecting swimmers visiting these areas

The Birzebbuga local council has raised concerns about fish farm waste polluting the bays around Delimara, including the Kalanka and Hofriet bays.

In a press statement, the council said MEPA had already been informed about the situation, which is affecting swimmers visiting these areas.

"This is another case of industrial activity impinging on citizens' leisure activites," the statement reads. "In the past weeks, we've also faced problems caused by oil runoff from the Freeport and the San Lucjan plant."

The council called for a coordinated effort to protect the bays from pollution, particularly when it affects bathers and tourists. Meetings with Transport Malta and Civil Protection Department have already taken place to determine the best and fastest ways to deal with these situations.
