Economy minister hails improved relations between Malta and Turkey

During a state visit to Izmir, Turkey, economy minister praised the improved relations between the two countries.

Cardona today held separate meetings with Izmir Chamber of Commerce chairman Ekrem Demirtaş and Aegean Region Chamber of Industry Ender Yorganciler.

Cardona said in a statement that he spoke about a visit to Turkey which will soon be taking place by a trade delegation composed of Maltese entrepreneurs and representatives from Malta Enterprise, Trade Malta, The Chamber of Commerce, the newly set up Malta Turkish Business Council, Finance Malta and Transport Malta.

He discussed with Demirtas about the possibility of having a Maltese student offered a scholarship to follow a course at the Izmir University of Economics.

He also invited the Izmir Chamber of Commerce and its members to visit Malta and explore potential commercial and investment opportunities.

Earlier, Cardona held a meeting with Turkish Economy Minister  Nihat Zeybecki, where an agreement for the creation of a bilateral commission between Malta and Turkey on the Economy and Commerce was signed.
