Malta's and Italy's leaders yesterday called for a 'European solution' to the growing migration crisis, as refugees clashed with police in Budapest's Keleti train station for a second day.

The European Commission is due to give Malta a formal warning over the damage done to a Natura 2000 protected site in San Lawrenz, Gozo, known as Ta' Slima.

A number of distressing images, showing a young refugee's body washed up on a Turkish beach, have drawn sympathy and outrage at the migration crisis, which has so far claimed thousands of lives.
