Fuel prices amongst the highest in Europe - PN

21 European countries with cheaper petrol prices when compared to Malta’s • Diesel price the fourth highest

Maltese families and businesses were paying amongst the highest fuel prices in Europe, Nationalist MP Marthese Portelli said.

In yet another appeal to the government to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel, Portelli said fuel prices in Malta were higher than the European average; the price of diesel was the fourth highest. She said, that the only three countries with prices higher than Malta were Italy, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

In the case of petrol, 21 member states paid cheaper prices than Malta.

“The last time the prices were higher than the average we learned of the direction given by the Minister for the Energy to deal with SOCAR. This had led to a €14 million loss,” Portelli claimed.

She said, that the PN was once again calling on the government to reduce the prices to reflect the international price of oil.
