Guze Ellul Mercer school to 'fill the gap' for students with only one O'Level

Education ministry defends Guze Ellul Mercer school (GEM 16+) after MUT claims it is a "badly planned project"

Guze Ellul Mercer school (GEM 16+) will be filling the void for students who do not obtain more than one Ordinary Level or SEC, a statement issued by the education ministry reads.

“We believe that students should be given a second chance, and this hasn’t been possible so far,” the statement reads.

It adds that applications, opened last week and will remain open until the end of October.

“It is unjust and premature of the MUT to condemn this project before it has even started,” the ministry added.

“We have embarked on a difficult project, but we will not give up.”

The ministry added that it believes all students are important, especially if they emerge without a SEC exam after twelve years of formal education.

During a press conference earlier today, MUT claimed that this was another badly planned project, without any foresight.

According to the MUT, while the school should cater for 240 students, only 40 students applied, and as a result, a number of educators will now be made redundant at the start of the scholastic year.
