EU funds parliamentary secretary Ian Borg said that over €2 million European funds had been awarded to various entities.

Borg said that the funds tied to the European Social Fund for the period 2007-2013 had almost expired, but that the call for proposals, which had been issued at the end of August, had been aimed at short-term but concrete proposals.

Borg said that many proposals had been received and that 28 projects had been selected for government entities and six for social partners.

"The projects will result in around 1,100 people receiving training and investment in alternate and better strategies and research," he said adding that the projects targeted capacity building course and skill enhancement.

Borg pointed out that there were sectors, such as the tourism and health sectors among others, with projects ranging from a minimum of €7,000 to a maximum of €100,000.
