Simon Busuttil’s spared no words of praise when prodded by the Labour press to comment on the return of former parliamentary secretary Tony Abela to the House of Representatives through a bye-election.

“A bye-election took place and he won it. What do you expect me to do… change the rules of democracy?” Busuttil said walking away.

On Sunday, MaltaToday reported that Abela had turned down Busuttil’s request not to stand in the bye-election prompted by the resignation of Joe Cassar, so the PN leader could co-opt criminal defence lawyer Joe Giglio to the House instead.
