General Workers Union is claiming that the Malta Public Transport is intimidating the public transport employees.

In a press release, the Union explains that the company sent a notice to all the employees saying that if the industrial action called by the GWU goes on, MPT will take disciplinary action.

The Union insists that the industrial action it’s proposing is legitimate and legal, especially if GWU is recognized by the majority of the MPT workers

“What MPT is doing goes against basic employment rights”, GWU added.

GWU said it will push further industrial actions if the notice is not withdrawn within the next 48 hours.

GWU explained that, if need be, representatives from MPT and those of the Union should meet to discuss.

“A worker that abides by a directive issued by the union has the protection of the law,” it concludes.
