Having organised its very first successful Model United Nations conference here in Malta earlier this year, the Malta Model United Nations Society immediately embarked onto the next two projects lined up in its calendar - sending delegations to two of the most renowned Model United Nations conferences worldwide, these being the Oxford International Model United Nations and the Cambridge University International Model United Nations.

Whilst the five delegates participating in OXIMUN represented the Central African Republic in a number of different committees, including the International Monetory Fund and the United Nations Peacekeeping Committee, the second delegation represented countries as diverse as Uganda, Jordan, Ireland and Lithuania in prestigious committees including the Security Council, International Court of Justice and Crisis Committee.

At the end of each conference, awards are given to those delegates who through their participation in their respective committe’s discussions and debates, exhibit the greatest number of skills which each MUN experience endows all delegates with – skills which include leadership, consensus seeking, public speaking, and accurate representation of a country’s policy.

Both delegations carried out a brilliant performance in each of the two conferences, bringing home with them eight awards in all. In fact, in this year’s edition of OXIMUN, Luisa Cassar Pullicino and Cristina Cefai, participating in UNESCO and UNICEF respectively, were both given the award of Commendable Delegate, whilst Clara Chetcuti, participating in the United Nations Peacekeeping committee won the prestigious Diplomacy Award.

Christopher Bergedahl also managed to obtain an Honourable Mention for his participation in the IMF Committee. Together with Warren Ciantar, who participated in the WTO Committee, the MaltMUN delegation managed to obtain the coveted award of Best Small Delegation for their collective efforts.

The MaltMUN delegation participating in CUIMUN proved to be another success with Roberto Cassar winning the Best Delegate Award in the Crisis Committee. Moreover, all of the awards in the International Court of Justice went to the two Maltese delegates, Saman Bugeja and Claire Caruana, who won Best Advocate and Best Judge respectively.

The MaltMUN Society is highly satisfied with the results achieved by these two delegations. Both delegations have demonstrated the Society’s dedication to maintain a high level of debate, leadership skills, and postive portrayal of the Maltese people internationally.

The MaltMUN Society is an independent, internationally-minded organization committed to developing necessary leadership and diplomatic skills in its members. This is done with the aim of forming strong-minded individuals, whose personal development through the acquisition of such skills, not only prepares them to participate on an international platform with other international delegates but also forms them into inspirational and prominent persons in their everyday lives.
