Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have safely landed in windy Malta.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall landed in Malta by private jet shortly before the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh landed in a separate plane.

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, could be seen struggling to get out of the plane as she tried to keep her see-through umbrella open, due to the inclement weather.

Welcoming the royal family were Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the British High Commissioner, Rob Luke, and their spouses.

The Prime Minister’s twin daughters, Soleil and Etoile, each handed the Queen a bouquet of flowers.

Awaiting the Queen at San Anton Palace were President of the Republic Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, the Prime Minister, Speaker Anglu Farrugia, Archbishop Charles Scicluna and the Cabinet of Ministers.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles headed to the Hilton Hotel where a Commonwealth Business Forum was taking place to deliver the closing address. His wife had a separate programme, starting off with a visit at Mdina Glass in Ta' Qali.

Ahead of the Queen’s arrival at the Palace, the national anthem was played by the Armed Forces of Malta’s band. The Queen and the President inspected the guard of honour.

The four gathered together again in the evening for a State reception by the President of Malta at the San Anton Palace gardens. After dinner, Prince Chalres launched the Prince's Trust International, the global extension of the UK’s leading youth charity.

The launch was held at a ceremony with the President at the Palace in Valletta.

Prince’s Trust International builds on the success of the UK charity which has supported 825,000 young people since it was founded in 1976. It provides consultancy, advice, training and access to programmes which support unemployed and vulnerable young people to succeed in education, employment and enterprise.
