A European youth network set up to tackle violent extremism has been extended to include Commonwealth countries.

“Violent extremism has devastating effects, and the Paris attacks have reminded us all that violence and hatred can threaten peace and everyday life,” parliamentary secretary for youth Chris Agius said at the launch of the project at the San Antonio hotel in Bugibba. “However, we can confront violence effectively through a spirit of reciprocal respect, cooperation and support”

The Youth Civil Activism Network (YouthCAN) was launched in Norway in June in an event that was organised by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue.

It describes itself as a network that “connects a wide array of youth activists, including artists, tech entrepreneurs, civil society leaders, peacebuilders, youth workers, filmmakers, cartoonists, students and innovators”.
