A round-up of the newspaper headlines on Sunday morning.

MaltaToday says a three-year-old boy was grievously injured when a tiger on a leash at the Montekristo Zoo lashed out at the child. On the frontpage, the newspaper reports that Opposition MP Kristy Debono has not shown up for work at the Malta Gaming Authority since June, and completed only eight hours of the 1,016 working hours she was expected to put in this year.

On the backpage, the newspaper carries the comments of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat who during a CHOGM meeting on Saturday said that international powers seeking a solution to the Syria crisis must not allow the war-torn country to become “another Iraq”. MaltaToday also reveals that a newly set-up firm provided CHOGM with 100 luxury cars.

Sunday newspaper Illum reports that Gozo minister Anton Refalo is lobbying for a referendum for the construction of a tunnel between Malta and Gozo. The minister says Gozitan votes should have additional weighting. The newspaper also reports on the Queen’s visit in Malta and says her visit brought back fond memories of her former home.

The Sunday Times of Malta reports that boathouses in Armier are being rented to tourists, despite being built on public land without a permit or title to the land. On the backpage, the newspaper reports that a company in which Economy Minister Chris Cardona and his chief of staff are shareholders has not presented its annual accounts to the MFSA for the past seven years.

The Malta Independent on Sunday says a Syrian man traveling to Malta who was arrested in Italy after it was discovered that he was carrying a fake passport will face terrorism charges, as Italian police he formed part of the Islamic State.

It-Torca says four Nationalist MPs employed by the government, namely Kristy Debono, David Agius, Clyde Puli, and Mario Galea, are receiving ‘privileged’ treatment, as they have not turned up for work.

Nationalist news organ il-mument quotes an Italian newspaper in saying that five Syrians who were arrested in Italy while en route to Malta had planned to carry out an attack on Queen Elizabeth.

Labour newspaper Kullhadd says Malta will host the Commonwealth Local Government Forum in 2017.
