The taxpayer has spent over €600,000 during the last three years, to keep a flock of some 300 sheep under 24-hour surveillance. The unregistered animals are at the centre of a drawn out legal battle, in which owner Gianni Attard is fighting to prevent the flock from being culled.

The police's assistance was requested in order to verify the fuel consumption of Opposition leader Simon Busuttil's official car, explained Speaker Anglue Farrugia. The decision to pass the case on to a magistrate was also taken by the police.
