A record sum of €1,040,855 was raised for Dar tal-Providenza during Friday’s fundraising marathon.

“This latest edition of the Feast of Generosity has once again shown the solidarity with and generosity of the Maltese people towards Id-Dar tal-Providenza,” the home’s director Fr. Martin Micalled said. “The funds will help the home continue to improve on the quality of life of its residents.”

This was the 20th edition of the Feast of Generosity – an annual New Year’s Day fund-raising marathon held to raise proceeds for Dar tal-Providenza, which houses people with disabilities.

The fundraising event was launched by a mass by Archbishop Charles Scicluna, who called on Maltese society to use the Siggiewi home as a model for how to be inclusive to people with disabilities.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil, Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona, and parliamentary secretary for people with disabilities Justyne Caruana also attended the event, as did MPs from both sides of the House.

As part of the Feast of Generosity, €31,251 were raised through an auction of various works of art donated by more than ninety artists. Various bids were placed online but most bidders were there personally to follow the process.
