In the Press: Testing delays putting consumers at risk of high pesticide levels

Delays in the Competition and Consumer Affairs testing process mean that some fruit and vegetables that make their way to consumers have a high pesticide content. Samples taken from produce often take weeks to test, by which time the produce will have been sold and consumed.

PN leader Simon Busuttil said that the Gaffarena scandal marked 'the beginning of the end' for the government led by Joseph Muscat. Busuttil was addressing a political event at the Zejtun PN club yesterday when he said that Muscat's government was the most corrupt in Malta's history.

Mepa is still considering its course of action for dealing with Borg in-Nadur, where teh faithful gather to pray and listen to Angelik Caruana. Mepa said it would not take action on the illegal development in the area until the Church pronounced itself on Caruana's 'miracles'. The Church has since determined that these miracles were not divine in nature.

Toni Abela, formerly the Labour party's deputy leader for party affairs and now nominee for the European Court of Auditors, said the nomination was 'an honour' and that he would be 'doing his best'.
