In the Press: Coast Road 'savings' down to cutting side projects

The government shaved ome €30 million off the cost of the Coast Road project by omitting certain works from the original designs, not through negotiating discounts with contractors. These include long stretches of pavement, safety barriers, retaining walls and storm water drains, among others.

Sources close to the contractors say they warned the government that there would be consequences to leaving out parts of the design plan.

Maltese families are paying some €3,000 annually to fund the subsidy given to the public transport operator, the PN said yesterday. This regardless of whether they use the service and without any guarantee that it would improve.
