In the Press: Mizzi's New Zealand trust holds shares in Panamanian company

Energy minister Konrad Mizzi's family trust, the existence of which he revealed earlier this week, is based in New Zealand however it owns shares in a Panama-registered company. Panama has been blacklisted by the European Commission as a tax haven.

Former minister Giovanna Debono had authorized the works carried out by her husband Anthony Debono, in his capacity as head of the Construction Maintenance Unit inside the Gozo ministry. The court case against Debono, who is facing 13 charges including misappropriation of public funds, continued yesterday, with the former Projects Director testifying.

The prime minister will still have the final say on judicial appointments once the justice reform bill goes through. Other changes to the system include the appointment of a subcommittee within the Commission for Administration of Justice to evaluate laywers interested in holding judicial posts.
