A 30-year-long legal battle was brought to a disappointing close yesterday as the European Court of Justice dismissed a case by Maltese pensioners against deductions of their British pensions, on a technicality.

President of the PN executive council Ann Fenech said that PM Joseph Muscat could not keep avoiding the topic of his chief of staff's financial activities in Panama, as controversy grows around both Keith Schembri and Muscat's failure to address the issue.

The last victim of the Paqpaqli incident, which took place last October, has been discharged from hospital. The 57-year-old man was released from Mater Dei after five months of treatment, regaining the ability to walk and eat independently.

PM Joseph Muscat said that minister Konrad Mizzi would have to pay a fine for not complying with local tax laws but no further action would be taken against him. Muscat said Mizzi could have 'made better choices' regarding his offshore banking in Panama.
