Gas power plant time framework being reviewed - PM

The timeframe of the new gas power plant is being reviewed, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has confirmed.

"The framework is being reviewed but we are not expecting delays of several months," Muscat told MaltaToday, asked whether the new power plant will miss yet another deadline.

"I am currently being briefed and we will give an update on the situation in the coming days," he said, adding that Labour's energy plan will be happening.

Muscat confirmed that tests on the conversion of the BWSC plant to run on gas will be starting soon.

Asked to confirm whether the conversion of the LNG tanker was taking longer than expected, Muscat reiterated that he was still being briefed.

Turning to questions on Panama Papers raised by journalists, Muscat said the government will be shouldering responsibility for what happened by working harder and delivering more.

"It is the people who will decide when the case is closed," Muscat said, asked whether Panamagate was now "a case closed".

The Labour leader also denied having been told by MPs or Cabinet members that they will not be seeking re-election in protest to Muscat's decision to retain both Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri.

Asked which members of the PL parliamentary group did not attend yesterday's mass meeting, Muscat quipped that he did not hold attendance.
