Planning enforcement call in police surveillance at Lunzjata quarry

The Authority called on the police to carry out daily surveillance at the quarry to ensure that no further operations are carried out

The Planning Authority stepped up its enforcement action against a large quarry in an area known as Ix-Xaghra tal-Lunzjata limits of Rabat, after the quarry owner failed to comply with the Authority’s instructions to cease the dumping of inert material and other activities in an area of the quarry where illegal rock excavations had been carried out.

The Authority called on the police to carry out daily surveillance at the quarry to ensure that no further operations are carried out within the site, until the quarry owner complies with the Authority’s instructions. The aim of the Authority is to ensure that the quarry owner will restore the area beyond the permitted boundaries.

In a separate enforcement action, the Authority sealed off a cold room which was being used illegally as part of a confectionery in Qormi within a residential area.
