What the Sunday papers say…

A round-up of the newspaper headlines on Sunday morning.

MaltaToday reveals that another design by the world renowned Zaha Hadidd has been commissioned, by a second company that has been selling apartments and floor space by a registration method on a new spectacular 38-storey tower in St Julian's. The other Zaha Hadid design is being proposed by the Villa Rosa developed, Anton Camilleri.

MaltaToday’s survey results show Prime Minister Joseph Muscat keeping a 7-point lead over Simon Busuttil, but support for the main parties and their leaders declined from last month as political fatigue sets in. The newspaper also reports that Bank of Valletta chairman John Cassar White sees no conflict of interest in writing editorials for The Times.

Sunday newspaper Illum says government consultant Joan Bland Mintoff, Dom Mintoff’s daughters, wants controls on house rents. However, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is opposed to the idea. In another story, the newspaper reports that Maltese small; and medium businesses will be given an incentive to switch their business online.

The Sunday Times of Malta reports that the finance ministry is resisting a bid by the Office of the Prime Minister to replace the head of the Tax Compliance Unit, which is investigating Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri over revelations about their offshore companies. The newspaper also says that the management of Air Malta will be taken over by Alitalia even though they have a minority shareholding in the Maltese national airline.

The Malta Independent on Sunday  reports that Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi was planning to run for the forthcoming general election prior to contesting the deputy leadership post. In another story, it says Transport Minister Joe Mizzi has joined Government Whip Godfrey Farrugia in not attending today’s Palumbo Shipyards’ sixth anniversary celebrations.

It-Torca says Antoine Calleja, an employee of the National Audit Office, is being investigated for inappropriate behaviour after former lands parliamentary secretary Michael Falzon said he was involved in politics.

PN news organ il-mument says it will not be intimidated by Keith Schembri after the OPM’s chief of staff threatened legal action if the newspaper doesn’t pay €121,000 in outstanding payments and accrued interests to the Kasco business group.

Labour newspaper Kullhadd carries comments from Education Minister Evarist Bartolo on the fifth anniversary since the introduction of divorce in Malta.
