1,485 persons arraigned in court over income tax breach

Between March 2013 and May 2016, 22 persons were fined for income tax breach

A total of 1,485 persons were arraigned in court charged with breaching income tax legislation between March 2013 and May 2016.

In reply to a parliamentary question raised by PN MP Jason Azzopardi, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said the individuals were employers, including companies and therefore more than one director would have been arraigned.

Of these, 22 were found guilty and fined. There were no prison sentence.

982 regularised their position with the department and the case was withdrawn.
