Muscat quizzed in Parliament over use of private jet

Joseph Muscat says private jet used to travel to EU council meetings, majority of expenses refunded to government by EU

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was questioned by Opposition Whip David Agius about his trips abroad and use of a private jet in parliamentary question time today.

Muscat revealed that he used a private jet 34 times since becoming Prime Minister – 16 times on a Euro Jet plane and 15 times on a Vista Jet plane.

“I use a private jets to travel to EU Council meetings and similar meetings to which I am invited along with other heads of state. This is in line with practices used in previous administrations,” Muscat said in response to one of Agius’ parliamentary questions. “As was the case under previous administrations, the EU refunds the majority of the expenses for the jet.”

On Tuesday, PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami demanded an apology from Muscat as information came to light over his use of a private jet.

Fenech Adami said that Muscat had, as Opposition leader, taken then Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to task for using a private jet. However, Muscat denied that this was the case.
