The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority has advised parents to remove particular soother holders from children and refrain from using them due to non-compliance with safety regulations.

The Technical Regulations Division within the authority has found a number of children soother holders which it claims pose a serious risk to consumers.

“The soother holders in question are hand made locally and have been found to lack conformity to the required applicable standards” the authority said in a statement. “The samples of these soothers elevated by the inspectors of the division were all longer than the maximum 220mm allowed by the standards, hence posing a risk of strangulation for children.”

The statement also reminded economic operators of their duty to place on the market only safe products which comply with the relevant standards, and to remove all products which are found to be unsafe.

The authority warned that economic operators found selling non-compliant products will be liable to legal action according to the provisions of the Product Safety Act.
