The chief executive officer of the Broadcasting Authority Pierre Cassar will be moving on to greener pastures as the director of communications at the University of Malta.

Cassar has handed in his resignation, effectively bringing to an end a post  he has held for almost eight years.

Speaking to MaltaToday, Cassar took the decision to leave the Broadcasting Authority in order to take up a new job as director of communications at the University of Malta.

“I’ve been at the Broadcasting Authority for a long time now, so my decision was just a natural progression,” he said, adding that his new job will provide an entirely different challenge.

“Media and marketing have always been my line of work. After seven years working in regulation, I look forward to a career with a more creative atmosphere.”

Cassar also denied media speculation that his resignation was due to conflict with the Broadcasting Authority’s relatively new chairperson, Tanya Borg Cardona.

“This is definitely not the case,” he said. “Tanya and I worked very well together. Just this morning we had a meeting to discuss how my successor will be selected.”

Cassar will remain CEO of the Broadcasting Authority until mid-September.
