SOS Malta’s USARK9 Unit will be leaving for Italy this evening to assist in Search And Rescue (SAR) operations in the aftermath of this morning’s deadly earthquake in Umbria.

The fully equipped 5-man, 2-dog team will be travelling by Catamaran to Pozzallo, after which it will be driving all night to reach the affected area tomorrow.

The volunteer team will be assisting the emergency services in locating survivors of the quake.

In a statement it released this afternoon, SOS Malta expressed its gratitude for the support and collaboration being offered to this emergency Mission by Virtu Ferries.

SOS Malta is in touch with Ambassador Frazier in Rome and the Malta Foreign Office.

This will be SOS Malta’s first such Mission after having established the USARK9 Unit in 2015.
