Caritas Malta collects over €190,000 in aid of Italy earthquake victims

The Maltese archdiocese has so far collected €190,880 in aid of the Amatrice earthquake victims

Through the setting up of Caritas Malta Emergency Fund, the Maltese archdiocese has collected €190,880 in aid of the residents of Amatrice, whose house were completely damaged in last month’s earthquake.

The disaster killed almost 300 people.

The funds were also collected through the parishes in Malta.

The initiative was undertaken on the request of Archbishop Charles J Scicluna, who thanked the Maltse for their generosity.

The funds will now be transferred to Caritas Internationalis, which provided first aid and assistance to the victims, also by providing some 1,200 meals every days. The Church in Italy has also offered shelter to the now homeless people and is also providing counselling sessions.

Donations can be done by means of a cheque addressed to  ‘Caritas Malta Emergency Fund’, 5, Triq l-Iljun, Floriana FRN 1514.
