Island to host Malta Maritime Summit next week

Final preparations underway for the first maritime summit to be held in Malta

Over 300 delegates, including foreign ministers, will be in Malta next week for the first ever maritime summit to be held on the Maltese Islands.

The four-day summit will be held between Monday and Thursday as the government pushes Malta to become “a maritime centre of excellence”.

In a statement, the Ministry for Transport said that the summit will provide a platform for stakeholders to analyse the European Union’s and international maritime strategy and its impacts on the industry. The summit will lay the groundwork for proposals which will be pushed during Malta’s Presidency of the European Council.

A number of bilateral meetings will also be held between Transport Minister Joe Mizzi and his foreign counterparts to strengthen Malta’s relations in the martime sector.
