Malta Public Transport has introduced new routes, servicing different educational institutions, for the winter season.

In a statement, Malta Public Transport said that as of Sunday 16 October, bus route X1A was introduced again to serve Ċirkewwa, Mater Dei, University and MCAST in Paola, between Monday and Friday. It added that route 30, serving Bombi, Kulleġġ, University and Mater Dei Hospital has also been introduced.

“These routes have been introduced in particular to help students who are travelling to the University, to the Junior College and to MCAST campus in Paola,” it said, adding that holders of a student card may opt for a student pass which offers 90 days of travel for €55.

Cash tickets on the bus were also reduced from €2.00 to €1.50, in line with the annual change in fares as regulated by the government.

“The reduction in the fare could further encourage the use of public transport, thus helping to alleviate the congestion on our streets,” the company said, adding that the bus service is now operating according to the winter schedule.

The new schedules are available online on publictransport.com.mt. Malta Public Transport advised that the ‘Journey Planner’ on the website and on the tallinja app will be temporarily unavailable until the updates are in place.
