Far more Maltese than foreigners charged with robbery this year

219 Maltese people have been charged in court with robbery this year, compared with only 79 foreigners.

The number of Maltese people who have been charged with robbery in court this year almost triples that of the number of foreigners.

Home affairs minister Carmelo Abela, in response to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Luciano Busuttil, revealed that 298 people have been charged in court with robbery between January and August this year. Out of these, 219 are Maltese while 79 are foreigners.

The statistics also show that the majority of the people charged with robbery (230) were males, while 68 were females.
