60 new volunteers join Civil Protection Department

The latest call for volunteers has brought the current number of active volunteers to 100, with another call to be open soon

Sixty volunteers have joined the Civil Protection Department, with another call for applicants being opened in the near future, according to home affairs minister Carmelo Abela.

The latest call has brought the number of active volunteers to 100.

According to Abela, the volunteers will be assigned to five fire-extinguisning station around Malta and Gozo, where they will be able to support the work done by the members. The CPD responds to around 5,000 calls for assistance a year.

The volunteers included 57 men and 3 women.
