L-Istrina charity telethon to promote solidarity

18th edition of charity event could be hard-pressed to equal or beat amount raised in 2015

The annual L-Istrina charity campaign is back today at 12.15pm, hoping to exceed the record-breaking €4.02 million raised in 2015 in a 12-hour telethon organised by the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Themed ‘With Solidarity’, this is the 18th edition of the event and will be held at the Kirkop Sports Centre.

Last year’s figure may be hard to beat, as €400,200 alone was raised through the auctioning of 75 Volvo cars that were used to transport leaders and diplomats during the 2015 Commonwealth and African migration summits.

Proceeds from l-Istrina donations go to the Malta Community Chest Fund, a foundation operated by the Office of the President that provides financial, material and professional support to people experiencing difficulties because of severe chronic illness, including cancer, disability or poverty.
