Malta Sociological Association formed to stimulate social research

The Malta Sociological Association will be chaired by sociology lecturer Valerie Visanich

The Malta Sociological Association has been established as an independent, non-profit voluntary organisation, with the intention of stimulating and analysing social research in the country.

“The association promotes sociological research and contributes towards facilitating the cooperation of people working within the sociological field,” the MSA said in its opening statement. “It also aims at understanding and analysing social problems for the improvement of the quality of life.

“As a scientific, independent organisation, MSA has no religious, political or any other kind of affiliation. The association may decide to affiliate with international sociological associations.”

It will be chaired by sociology lecturer Valerie Visanich, with Maria Brown as vice-chairperson, Angele Deguara as secretary, Mariella Debono as treasurer, Michael Briguglio as public relations officer, Lina Caruana as membership officer, Noel Agius as events administrator and Bridget Borg as student representative.

Sociologists and other social scientists, that is persons with a recognised qualification in the field of social science, as well as tertiary level students of sociology or other social sciences are eligible for membership.
