Decapitated horse found in Marsa

Police are investigating discovery of the decapitated body of a horse close to Marsa sports grounds

A horse was found decapitated and mauled close to the road leading to the Marsa sports ground, behind the Cini petrol station, on Wednesday morning.

Police were informed of the discovery at 5.45am and immediately secured the area. The horse has not yet been identified.

The police forensic department will be inspecting any CCTV footage in the area for clues that may lead to the identification of the culprit.

In a statement, the Parliamentary secretariat for animal rights condemned the act and said that a coordinated effort between the Police, Animal Welfare Directorate and Veterinary Services is underway.

The secretariat said that it has given clear instructions to government officials, to do everything possible and to cooperate with police investigations in order for the perpetrators of the crime to be brought to justice as soon as possible.

Anyone having information about the case is being urged to pass it on to the Animal Welfare Directorate on 1717.
