Schengen border controls reintroduced as security measure for EU summit

Border controls will be imposed between 20 January and 9 February for travel to and from Schengen states.

Border controls are to be reintroduced at Malta International Airport and at the Valletta Sea Passsenger Terminal in view of security requirements for the Malta Informal Summit and the Valletta Action Plan Meeting.

The checks will be imposed on passengers going to and coming from Schengen states between midnight on 20 January and midnight on 9 February 2017, the Ministry for Home Affairs and National Security said in a statement this evening.

The Malta Informal Summit is an informal meeting of EU heads of state or government which will be held on 3 February 2017. The Valletta Action Plan Meeting is a senior officials meeting which will be held over the 8 and 9 February 2017 as a follow-up to the Valletta Summit on Migration in November 2015.
