PN blasts ‘insulting’ praise from socialists for Cardona’s ‘support to feminist cause’

The minister involved in allegations of having visited a German brothel in Velbert while on official business this week has been praised for “supporting the feminist cause”, sparking outcry from the Nationalist Party.

The PN’s reaction comes in the wake of a tweet by the Party of European Socialists (PES), the socialist parties’ bloc within the European Parliament, which on Saturday thanked Chris Cardona for his support of the “feminist cause”.

The tweet was made after Cardona opened a meeting on women’s rights and gender equality held in Malta.

However, in a reaction, the Nationalist Party’s women executive said the tweet “was an insult to all Maltese and Gozitan women,” and that the party should have instead “criticised Chris Cardona for vising a brothel in Germany.”

“The situation has reached ridiculous levels,” the party said.

Cardona has denied visiting the FKK Acapulco club in Germany, and insisted he can – and will – prove the allegations false. The minister has also challenged the Opposition to present details of prostitutes who claimed to have recognised him, so that they can be summoned as witnesses in the defamation suits.
