According to the Embryo Protection Authority’s annual report, a total of 273 IVF cycles were carried out in Malta during 2016, 202 of which took place at Mater Dei Hospital.

The report was tabled during Wednesday evening’s parliamentary session, together with audited accounts for 2016 and estimates for 2017 and 2018.

A total of 64 pregnancies resulted from these cycles, 14 of which resulted in the birth of a child, while 43 were expecting. A total of 7 miscarriages were registered.

The number of couples that had benefited from the availability of IVF during 2016 was 228.

Moreover, the report states that 58 babies were born through IVF in 2016, 44 of which were the result of IVF cycles in 2015.
