The administration at Mount Carmel Hospital has launched an investigation into allegations that a patient was beaten on the premises.

In a story reported on Wednesday on PN media, relatives of a 42-year-old man alleged that he had been physically assaulted sometime between Monday and Tuesday as the man was being transferred from the Dual Diagnosis Unit to the Seclusion Ward.

Photos posted on PN media show the man has sustained injuries to face and to his legs. It is claimed that severity of the man’s injuries led him to seek medical attention from the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital. Reportedly, the man was held in intensive care until yesterday.

In a brief statement, the health ministry said the investigation seeks to “determine the facts of the case.”
