A rental vehicle fell down two storeys inside the MCP car park late on Wednesday morning.

The motorist, a 28-year-old Belgian national, is reported to have been attempting to park his car at around 11:20am when he backed it over the edge of the internal shaft, which is only secured by wooden fencing.

The motorist was still inside the car, a Peugeot 2008, as it fell, landing on the ground and missing any other cars in the vicinity. The man’s wife and child had exited the car before the driver started parking.

No other cars were damaged, according to eyewitnesses.

The car park has just recently completed increasing its internal floor space, and has not yet secured the internal shaft with metal bars.

The motorist was taken to Mater Dei hospital for treatment. Police later confirmed that he had suffered minor injuries.
