It was a busy day for the Emergency Response & Rescue Corps (ERRC) at the Blue Lagoon who rescued over a hundred swimmers as rip currents dragged swimmers away.

The ERRC said swimmers were caught by surprise and two rescue boats had to be deployed to ensure the safety of all swimmers.

In a statement issued in conjunction with the Malta Tourism Authority, the ERRC however said that swimming at Blue Lagoon, in Comino, was safe as long as swimmers abide by the safety procedures within the designated swimming zone.

The ERRC also urged the public to respect the signal flags that are put up daily and changed accordingly throughout the day.
