Marlene rains on Michelle’s parade in Facebook rant over charity swim

Charity swim does little to soften MP’s dislike for Labour’s first family…

Democratic Party leader Marlene Farrugia simply does not give a toss about the Prime Minister’s wife’s charity swim, good intentions notwithstanding.

In a Facebook post, the former Labour MP – who secured re-election by putting her PD candidature on the Nationalist Party ballot in the 2017 election – rained on Michelle Muscat’s parade with a missive directed at her husband.

“Michelle can swim to kingdom come. Truth is our country is being ransacked with her husband at the helm. They are trading our country’s gold and giving the trusting population crumbs to keep them entertained,” Farrugia, who broke ranks with Labour after the American University debacle, said.

“Our NGOs do not need charity. They need Michelle and Joseph to stop abetting the plunder, so that everyone can enjoy the country’s wealth. How come the hypocrites speak of a surplus and then swim for charity?”

Muscat has been carrying out her annual charity swim since 2014, to collect the proceeds for her charity organisation Marigold Foundation, which supports NGOs that “empower the vulnerable”. The NGO is unconnected to the government, which recorded its first ever surplus in decades earlier this year.

But Farrugia was unimpressed by Muscat’s feat. “Get real, private jet squandering couple. You are our nations’ thieves… Your tenure will be remembered for the destruction of our natural and our architectural heritage,” Farrguia, a property entrepreneur who lives in a Grade 1 listed 17th century building in Qrendi, said.

“There would be enough for everyone, no need for charity if you were caring and loyal to our country. But you are not. Traitors. Get a life Michelle.”
