The University of Malta Seismic Monitoring and Research Group yesterday reported an earthquake southeast offshore Malta that went by virtually unnoticed.

The earthquake struck at about 16:30 local time.

No damages have been reported, but some have taken to social media to announce that they felt a tremor in the Zejtun and Tarxien area.

The monitoring group registers an average of one tremor a month at a distance of between 50km and 100km from Malta, the head of the university’s geosciences department Pauline Galea stated in an interview with MaltaToday.

The Seismic Monitoring and Research Group is asking those who have any information to fill out a short questionnaire reporting their experience.
