A call for tenders for work on an important phase of the Marsa Junction project is to be issued today, Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg revealed on Facebook.

In a post on his personal page, Borg said that the government had embraced fair and transparent systems that were also efficient.

The call for tenders would be for work on an important phase of the project, he said.

“I thank the authorities involved, as well as those contractors who will be offering their services for this important job.”

Adding a hastag ‘feeling determined’, Borg said that he was confident that the country would rise to the occasion to see the project through as planned, on time and on budget.

The work on the junction, as approved by the Planning Authority in January, will be carried out over nine phases and will cover an area of approximately 25,000 square metres.

The works will involve the construction of a three-grade separated junction, the shifting of existing carriageways, the demolition of factories overlooking Triq il-Labour and the upgrading of existing road infrastructure together with the provision of a Park and Ride facility, street furniture and landscaping.
The arterial roads on which major upgrading works will be carried out include Vjal Santa Lucija, Vjal Sir Paul Boffa, Triq Garibaldi, Triq Aldo Moro, Triq il-Labour and Triq Hal-Qormi.
