Gozitan fishermen have been advised that they can collect ice from the Fisheries Department in Mgarr, Gozo, after problems with the cold room in Xewkija meant they were no longer able to keep freshly-caught fish cold.

The cold room is currently being repaired, however in the meantime, the parliamentary secretariat for fisheries said it was working with the private sector to ensure that there was a sufficient supply of ice.

It said that a truck-load of ice had been sent to Gozo and was unloaded at the Mgarr port landing facilities, to be distributed to local fishermen.

Moreover, it advised any fishermen requiring assistance to contact the Fisheries Department on 21558200 or 79592682.
