A 10-year-old Maltese boy was slightly injured yesterday after falling into a well while on holiday in Italy with his parents, Italian media has reported.

According to the reports, the boy was playing with some other children in a grassy area next to a pub, where his father had stopped for a drink, in Punta Braccetto in the province of Ragusa.

While running around in the grass, the boy ran over an uncovered well and immediately fell to the bottom, six metres deep.

The other children heard his screams and ran to call for help inside the pub.

The boy’s father, with the help of the pub owner, managed to get the boy to safety without any further incident.

An ambulance took the boy to a nearby clinic, where he was treated for slight injuries.

The boys’ parents filed a report with Italy’s para-military police, the Carabinieri, who are investigating whether the landowners should face any charges.
