Thunderstorm causes flight delays and traffic standstill

Thundery rain showers struck the Maltese islands this morning, with strong southeast winds.

Similar to the effect Monday’s thunderstorm had on the islands, many frustrated motorists were caught in the rain, in standstill traffic and students attempting to get to University and MCAST were stuck waiting at bus stops in the downpour.

A number of flights were also delayed, including flights from Niederrhein (Ryanair), Amsterdam (Transavia), Warsaw (LOT), and Manchester (EasyJet), due to arrive between 9 and 11am at Malta International Airport, were diverted to Palermo.
