Gozitan MP Chris Said has called for ‘concrete action’ to be taken by parliament in wake of the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia last week while expressing his “anger” at the journalist's killing.

“Twelve days have passed since the brutal murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The anger within me towards what happened, rather than subside, is increasing every day,” wrote Said in a Facebook post.

In his post, Said recounted how three days before she was killed, Caruana Galizia had called him up and asked him whether he would be submitting his nomination for deputy leader of the Nationalist Party.

“I answered no. She spoke to me about concerns she had about where the country was going. In short, she was explaining to me what she wrote three days later, a few minutes before she was killed,” continued Said, quoting the journalist’s now famous last words: “There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate.”

Said insisted that he could still hear her words resonating round his ears, and that “the more time passes, the more I feel I can do more”.

The MPs comments come against the backdrop of reports of growing tensions and internal dissent within the Nationalist Party, with a parliamentary group meeting scheduled to take place later today.

“I will continue working for concrete steps to be taken immediately by the Maltese Parliament. I will work so that all that Daphne investigated and wrote about does not stop here,” stressed Said.
