The first phase of road junction works at Marsa started on Monday morning with the demolition of one of the factories in the area.

The massive project is expected to cost €85 million and will be completed in three years. A multi-level intersection will replace the current junction set up where four main arteries meet.

Transport Minister Ian Borg, who visited the area this morning, said motorists passing through the area would not be affected until after March next year.

He said the first phase of the project involved the demolition of factories and preparatory street level works.

The BIM and Astracast factories will be relocated to the Hal Far Industrial Estate.

Borg said the same team that handled the traffic management plan for the Kappara junction works was tasked to plan traffic flow arrangements in the busy Marsa junction while works are underway.
