MP claims Security Service followed him while driving, then tweets retraction
Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi, a lawyer for the Caruana Galizia family, tweeted that he was being followed by two MSS cars but later retracted the claim
Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi retracted a tweet claiming that he was being followed by two cars from the Malta Security Services.
The MP is also a lawyer for the family of assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
The MP however said the MSS got in touch with him soon after the tweet went up, denying he was being followed. The MP said he took their word, but said he would file a police report with the licence-plate number of the cars he claimed were following him.
I’ve been contacted by Head MSS who assured me that no MSS cars were ever involved in tailing me. I take his word & thk him. Police report will be filed. I’ll not be cowered. @mcaruanagalizia @ACaruanagalizia @ActivistsMalta

In a short statement, the government said it was informed that the Malta Security Service contacted Azzopardi and informed him that the MSS was not following him in any way. "Government regrets such misinformation by a Member of Parliament," the statement read.
